Testing for COVID-19

Fusion Occupational Health have two different types of testing on offer. These can be used on their own or as part of a temperature checking scheme.

Swab Testing

The Perkin Elmer detection kit for testing for COVID infection. The product is CE Marked and been approved by Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for professional use. This is the same type of test currently being used in the NHS.

This test requires our technician to perform a combined nasal and throat swab on the individual.  This swab sample will then be bagged and returned to the laboratory for testing and a result produced within 24 hrs to Fusion OH.  Fusion will then inform the individual and employer of the result.

Covid-19 is a notifiable disease in the UK so following the swab tests the Lab would notify Public Health of any confirmed cases.

There are different purchasing options for this service, in brief:

Self-Administered Home Test Between £95 and £120 (Depending on pre-purchased volumes)

Technician collection of samples - £300 per day, £90 per test up to 50 per day in a single location

COVID-19 Anti-body Testing

The COVID-19 IgG/IgM test device detects antibody through visual interpretation of colour development. Anti-human IgG and anti-human IgM are used to detect specific antibodies in the human whole blood sample. When the sample is placed in the device well and a buffer is added, specific IgG and/or IgM antibodies if present, will bind to the COVID antigens within the test area.

The presence of red band(s) on the test regions indicates a positive result for the particular IgG/IgM antibodies, while the absence indicates a negative result

Our supplier is Matrix Diagnostics and they have obtained the tests from the largest manufacturer of diagnostic testing in China. The product is CE Marked and been approved by Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for professional use. It is a point of care test, so the test is not sent to any laboratory for confirmation. The test is for professional use only. This is a point of care test which is 98.2% accurate and will not be sent anywhere for confirmation.  There is a control mechanism built into the test.

Procedure

  • The test device and buffer must be allowed to reach room temperature prior to use
  • The test device will be placed on a clean and level surface
  • Individual details will be taken and recorded along with lot number and expiry date of devices.
  • A lancet will be used to prick the finger.
  • A blood sample will be taken using a pipette and the sample will be transferred into the well of the test device.
  • Buffer Drops will be added to the well as per test device leaflet and the timer will be started.
  • The results are read at 15mins and evidence of red coloured bands indicate a positive result.

There are the following possible outcomes of the test:
